Slava Ivanov, November tango-weekend

This time Slava has prepared interesting lessons with a focus on exploring during class. Here is what he says about the topics…

6 November

18.00 -19.00 "How i would dance this song?". Or "What we can mark here?.." (as well as "what we should" and "what's not the best idea..") It's a sort of the Musical Laboratory. All the class we work with a chosen song. (For this time it's gonna be "Farol" by Pugliese). The idea is to explore it from the beginning till the end. We listen, we find "what to mark". We decide "how". We try.

19.00 – 20.00 Dynamics. "Legato". This is one of my favorite topics. The main idea is "to keep the flow“. We will work with "connection” or “linking” of steps. Which means how we “link” different steps so they start to look as one nice smooth movement. When I write “look” I mean not just how a dancing couple looks like, but how we “feel” the movement inside the couple. Or in other words – how to make a set of different steps to be a Dance.

8 November

13.00 – 14.00 Reverse TangoLab. Exploring of the Movement. From A to Z and from Z to A. (reverse movements) We “flip” familiar figures and explore reversed movements. The goal: to break habits, stay present, and deepen connection. After working on a couple of simple changings of direction using the reverse idea, I added two new ways to play with double-time to my "vocabulary". Two new “one-and-two” patterns made from simple steps and weight shifts that, in 25 years, never occurred to me before!

14.00 – 16.30 Practilonga. DJ Slava
